Campania is the first region in Italy by number of companies in the beverage industry and the light metal packaging manufacturing industry.

The fruit and vegetable preservation sector is also important.

The sector’s exports have shown a constant positive trend since 2017.

The 26 PDOs register a 5.5 per cent growth in value compared to the previous period.

High-level training, provided by the Department of Agriculture of the ‘Federico II’ University of Naples, with specialised courses in Agro-Environmental and Food Biotechnologies, Oenological Sciences, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, and by the University of Salerno in ‘Management and valorisation of agricultural resources and protected areas’ or Food Engineering, also of an innovative nature, such as that of “Parthenope”, in “Fashion, Art and Food Management”, delivered entirely in English, or that of the Department of Economic and Statistical Sciences of the University of Salerno in “Wine Business”.

The University of Benevento, ‘Food Technology for Confectionery Productions’, Caserta ‘Nicolò Cusano’ with ‘Agroindustrial Engineering’ and the ‘Suor Orsola Benincasa’ (Naples), with its Level I Master’s in ‘Multimedia Communication of Food and Wine’ also contribute to the varied offer.

Approximately 8,000 companies, increasing in 2021, make up the agri-food chain, a distinctive element in terms of tradition and importance of the Campania economic system.

It counts on a high number of products certified with national and international protection marks (PDO, PGI, TSG) that drive regional exports, accounting for about a quarter of the total (24%).

Blockchain in the agri-food chain ensures the safety and control of products and increases consumer confidence.

Presence of multinational companies: Unilever, Nestlé, Bonduelle, Heineken, Zuegg, and national companies with an international vocation such as the La Doria group.
