Green technologies on the rise. Record of patent applications in Campania

best performances come from the North-East and the South of Italy, which recorded +29%

Italian creativity is flourishing. The European Patent Office announced 4,773 applications received from the country last year, over 200 more than in 2021. A figure that has been growing since 2016, making Italy the fifth most inventive nation in the EU area and 11th in the world.
Most part of patents come from companies (88%). At second place (7%) are private inventors, better than universities and research institutes (5%).
But what is patented most? Almost 2,000 of the total applications come from mechanics and transport sector, the real draggers of Made in Italy.
And there is, overall, great attention to the environment, with green technologies growing by 23%.
Those for waste treatment stand out, but there are also many innovations on the alternative energy and product design sectors.
According to Unioncamere data, best performances come from the North-East and the South of Italy, which recorded +29%. Umbria and Campania saw the number of applications soaring.
