AI: Campania market first in Italy. South reaches Eu average

The digital market in Campania passed EUR 4.6 billion, Mezzogiorno is in line with European values

In 2021, the digital market in Campania passed €4.6 billion, with a growth of 4.6% over 2020. And if only 6.2% of Italian companies use artificial intelligence systems, against an EU average of 8%, the Mezzogiorno does better than the rest of the country and is in line with European values, reaching 7.6%. The percentage of small companies stands at 5.3%, against 24.3% of large companies.

Overall, however, the percentage of enterprises in Campania with at least a basic level of
digitalisation has grown by +13.3% in 2022 compared to 2021, an increase much higher than the Italian average (9.6%).
This snapshot of the digital market in Campania emerged during the fourth stage, held in Caserta, of the cycle of meetings ‘Artificial Intelligence and SMEs: experiences from a present future’, organised by Confindustria and Anitec-Assinform.
This is a roadshow that will tour all Italian regions over two years, with the aim of raising awareness and informing small businesses associated with Confindustria about the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence. The companies themselves will recount their experiences and strategies for using AI in the company, thanks to the presentation of concrete cases and direct confrontation with the participants. According to Anitec-Assinform, the association that groups ICT companies in Confindustria, in Italy the artificial intelligence market reached a volume of around 422 million euros (+21.9%) in 2022 and AI is expected to reach 700 million in 2025 with an average annual growth rate of 22%.
